Denis Wood was a professor of design at North Carolina State University from 1974 to 1996. He curated “The Power of Maps” exhibitions for the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City and the Smithsonian in Washington. He is the author of The Power of Maps (Guilford Press, 1992) and Five Billion Years of Global Change (Guilford Press, 2003), and the co-author of Home Rules (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2004), Seeing Through Maps (ODT, 2001), and Making Maps (Guilford Press, 2005). This spring, he will co-publish The Natures of Maps. He has a PhD in geography from Clark University.
