Nell Boeschenstein

Nell Boeschenstein is an essayist whose work appears in the Guardian, the Believer, the Rumpus, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and is a contributing writer for the Morning News, as well as a former producer for BackStory with the American History Guys and Fresh Air. She lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, and teaches at Sweet Briar College.*

Traveling into the heart of coal country along with her friend and collaborator, Kelley Libby, a Virginia writer documents time spent with coal miner, Regular Baptist preacher, and renowned singer Frank Newsome, and tracks changes in her own thinking about her state’s environment and how people interact with it.
