Petra Kuppers

Petra Kuppers is a disability culture activist, a community performance artist, and a professor at the University of Michigan. She is author of the poetry collection PearlStitch, released in 2016; the queer / crip speculative story collection Ice Bar, released in 2018; and the forthcoming poetry collection Gut Botany. She lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where she cocreates Turtle Disco, a somatic writing studio, with her wife Stephanie Heit.

Hurricane Poetics and Crip Psychogeographies

One weekend in October 2017, we led a workshop at Movement Research, a New York City laboratory for the investigation of dance and movement forms. As the cofounders of the Asylum Project, a range of site-specific explorations of sanctuary, edge space, and communal well-being, infused by crip culture / disability culture values, we are interested in poetry and performance as ways of being in the world.
