Blue chicory and Queen Anne’s lace
now fringe each ditch and interlace
daylilies and sumac, July and fall.
Pastel as Delft, weeds stretch and sprawl
cool against August’s blazing face.
Nobody breeds them. Who’d deface
their garden with goldenrod? The one place
Anne thrives is in this roadside scrawl
with blue chicory.
